M4400 replace primary HDD with SSD?

I have a M4400 running Win 7 64 bit, 8 gigs RAM, Duo core Extreme 3.06Ghz.

Is it possible to replace the primary HDD 7200rpm with a SATA 3 6mbps SSD?

My goal is to then replace the DVD player with the HDD I pull out and ghost the new primary SSD to the HDD in the DVD bay.

Thanks

Even a 3Gps SSD will blow the Momentus XT out of the water performance wise.

Yes, it is possible to use an SSD - any standard 2.5" SSD will work.

Thank you!

Does my system support SATA3 6mbps? I have seen a variety of different SSD's for sale.....

No, it won't - it's 3G SATA (3Gps).

Thank you,

I currently have a 750Gig 7200rpm Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive w/8Gb SSD on board

Since my hard drive speed is the limiting factor on my system for performance, is there anyway to squeeze better performance out of my main storage device? I was thinking of going to SSD, but if my current HDD is SATA 3gig would there be any benefit of going to SSD even though they are both SATA 3gig?

I'm looking at this to determine if getting a m4600 or 4700 w/ RAID drive setup is what I have to do.

I'm using this notbook for AutoCad.
