Message on screen is stuck 'on'

Im wondering can anyone of you help me please.

I have been on with Virgin Media and they tried to do a restore with the original discs, but I have this message that comes on the screen saying ' Configuring Updates 3 of 3 0% completed, do not turn off' it never does it and the message is always the same, they couldnt find an answer, saying it needs taken to a repair shop.

Its been this way for months now I just havent bothered to sort it out as I have a tower pc in a spare room so I never miss the laptop, I was wanting to sell it though, but cant with it this way.

Any help out there please?

Thanking you

Hi Maureen,

Thanks for your post! From what your describing it sounds like the same Microsoft Windows Vista update issue from the following TechNet thread.

Configuring Updates Step 3 of 3 - 0% Complete

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6e74e41b-64ee-4801-91cc-4690e4bc5bca/configuring-updates-step-3-of-3-0-complete?forum=itprovistasp

Hopefully simply rebooting the system in safe mode will prompt the update to complete as it did with this Microsoft forums initial poster but if not the forum linked above provides several other solutions that could help. For additional options see Microsoft Forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system/my-computer-is-stuck-in-configuring-updates-stage/bcbda336-728b-42ba-acdf-9f86130ea4b5

If unable to resolve through the steps provided in these forums I would advise reinstalling the operating system with you recovery media, making sure on initial start up to disable the Windows ‘Automatic driver update’.
