Hi Kc83mayor,

It may be an issue with the system hardware or Operating System of your computer. You can run the diagnostics on your computer to verify the hardware functionality.

Note : Before you run the tests, remove all the external peripherals connected to your computer including:

  • Scanner
  • Printer
  • Modem or Network cables
  • Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
  • USB flash drive or other external Hard Drive
  • Any other external devices (e.g., USB-attached devices)

Steps to run diagnostics on your computer are:

  • Please restart the system.
  • As soon as you see the blue Dell logo tapping the ‘F12’ key which is at the top of the keyboard.

Note: If you wait too long and the Microsoft Windows appears, then continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Now shutdown your computer and try again.

  • After we have pressed ‘F12’ key then a new window will appear. Now highlight the “Boot to utility partition” and press ‘Enter’ key which is at the center of the keyboard.

(If Boot to the Utility partition option is not there then you will have a “Diagnostics” option to select which starts the diagnostics directly.)

In case the hardware diagnostic tests pass, it may be an issue with the Operating System or a corrupt driver. You can use ‘System Restore’ to restore your computer to a previous date before this issue occurred. This will take care of the issue.

Note: Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs. System Restore will restart your PC. All the data will be preserved however all the applications you have installed after that date will be lost and you may to reinstall it again.

Steps for System Restore are:

  • Open System Restore by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, click System Restore.  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  • You will immediate see a screen where you can choose to roll back the system to the last restore point. You can select “Recommended restore”, and just click next, or you can choose a different restore point.

  • If you do choose a different restore point, you will see a list of restore points that you can choose from.

  • Click one of them, and you will have to confirm and then restart your computer to roll the system back.

  • Confirm system restore and click on Finish.

Please keep me posted with the results.
