Problems with SigmaTel Audio-HELP!

hello-i am using:

Inspiron 1100 w/ SigmaTel Audio card
Cakewalk "Music Creator"
M-Audio "MobilePre" (USB-MIDI Interface)

When i set Music Creator to ASIO, i can record and everything; no problem there.  But i can never hear anything out of my laptop?!?!  The SigmaTel Audio has WDM drivers.  Is there anything i can do to get SigmaTel Audio to work with cakewalk on the ASIO setting?  or is there something else i can do to get this set up to work?

Please Help Me!!
Thanks!!

kris27,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

I suggest running the audio test within the Dell diagnostic test.  Please report the results.

Kris,

I use Cakewalk's Sonar with an 1100 so I might be able to help but I don't understand the problem. Audio works with the Mobile with other applications, just not with Cakewalk? If not working with other programs, go into the Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices Properties and select the Mobile as the soundcard and apply.

Can you import an audio file into Creator (I'm not familiar with that program) and play it back and still not get audio? Is there a way to double check that when you record it is actually recording successfully?

Is anything plugged into the headphone jack of the Mobile?

Try selecting SigmaTel as the soundcard and see if Creator plays through the computer's speakers.

If Creator has configuration options, try to find a setting called 'always use MME drivers even when wdm is present' or something like that and use that.

Need more specifics.

There is a way to double check to see if the program really recorded audio and it is recording audio.  Also, when the program is picking up MIDI sounds, there is a red light that will blink in Music Creator and it does blink.  The MobilePre's signal light lights up as well and if i plug my headphones directly into it, there is clearly sound and it is working properly.  The problem is that i cannot get any sound out of my laptop, not out of the laptop speaker or though headphones when i connect them to my laptop.

When I set Music Creator to ASIO, the sigmaltel audio card disapers as an output option.  The only thing i can select is the driver for the MobilePre.  And, setting Music Creator to ASIO appears to be the only setting it can be on for the program to pick up sounds from the MobilePre and for it to record.  Setting Music Creator on MME makes the MobilePre driver disapear and the program will not pick up any sound, much less record anything.  And when i set it to WDM, it tells me there is a problem with SigmaTel Audio, and i cannot reocord or get any sound at all either.

So, it seems like problem is that it needs to be set at ASIO for it to work, but when i do that i cannot get any sound whatsoever out of my laptop...even though there is clearly sound that is registering and able to be recorded.

Hope this paints a clearer picture for you? thanks!

kris,

you haven't said whether SigmaTel and Mobile Pre are functioning correctly when used with other applications such as Sound Recorder and Media Player or whatever.

I checked out Music Creator. It is basically Sonar with some features left out. From my experience I'm pretty sure you are going to have to select MME drivers for MC to work on your Inspiron. It should at least work with the SigmaTel...which definitely won't work with any other setting. The MP supports MME so it should work with that too. Make sure that MP's MME driver is loaded and configured. Also go to your Volume Control panel and make sure that your volumes are enabled and turned up.
