Standby & Hibernation problems

I have a  I 2500 and Dim 4100 both have XP and are current with all updates. Both have and always had this problem. Both have standby and hibernation activated. After coming out of standby or hibernation the mouse freezes at short intervals. The activety light showing the HD stays on and then the mouse freezes. After about a minute or two the light goes out and the mouse works for less then a minute. And then the cycle repeates. The only way to get out of this is to restart. I would like to have the standby work. It looks like I have everything set right in the power options. Can anyone help me with this?
