Standby problems

I  am experiencing a problem. My 1100 will not return from standby when I open the monitor. The screen will stay dark, the fan starts, the light shows that there is activity but nothing appears. I have to manually turn off the computer then restart completely. What does it take to correct this problem?

Ditto

How ironic!  I've been experiencing the exact same problem on an Inspiron 1100.  Finally this morning, I reached the point where I was trying to research this question on the Internet, thought of this message board and whoah and behold, the first post I read perfectly describes my problem.

Let me add, that this problem seems to be 2-3 weeks old.

I just started having the same problems with my Inspiron 1100. When I try to "wake it up from suspend" the hard drive and fan seem to come on but the screen does not. I have to do a hard shut-down and then reboot.

Does anyone know how to fix this??

I, too, have just started having this problem, and it seems to have started after doing the last Microsoft Update for Dell Video something or other. Fan also seems to be running less. Has anyone else who has the standby problem recently done this update? I'm going to undo the last update. I'll bet that fixes the problem.

hmmm, now that I think about it....I think my problem may have started around the time of downloading the Dell video driver.

Which reminds me, that I wasn't able to sucessfully download the driver from automatic windows update, so I went to the Dell driver download section and downloaded from Dell.  I'm curious, did anyone else have problems downloading the Dell video driver from Microsoft?

Secondly, does anyone know if Dell monitors these threads and more importantly do they provide answers on them?

Well, it worked. I restored my system to the day prior to the Windows Update for the Dell Video Gamer (?) (- whatever my last auto update was - it was a Dell Video something.), and I am able to to resume use after being in standby. Now, if you need that update, sorryoutof luck. Dell and Microsoft need to figure out a fix.

I have emailed Dell support for help with this problem. They did respond but told me to get in touch with Microsoft as it was a windows problem. This seeems to be a Dell answer for everything. I have been  fortunate to have few times asking for help but got the same answer each time. Now, to try to fix this problem, does anyone know how to check for a recent download date? Is it stored somewhere on the system? I also did a recent Dell/Microsoft automatic update. I do not know what day that happened.

I called DELL and after some questions they had me "restore" my system to a date before those DELL upgrades. DELL didn't seem to recognize this problem but the fix appears to have worked;

Go to:
START
ACCESSORIES
SYSTEM TOOLS
SYSTEM RESTORE
pick a date proir to installing DELL upgrades( couldn't be sure so just went back about 2 weeks)

To check date of Windows installation, do the following:

On Internet Browser, click on TOOLS

Click on WINDOWS UPDATE

Once Windows Update has checked for needed updates, click on

VIEW HISTORY and it will list date and time of previous Windows Updates,

I am new to this forum, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU!  What a great resource.  I was frustrated by this new thing my laptop was doing, and didn't think it could be healthy to force quit everytime I wanted to resume working on an existing project.  Thanks to all of you and your expert advice and experience I was able to system restore back to before that last update (which was only June 7th) and it's all working properly again! I just hope all the rest of the people who are struggling with this think to search for a solution like I did!

Instead of doing a system Roll-back, you can also do a Driver "roll-back" to the previous driver that was working for you. Go to Control panel, to system, to hardware, to device Manager, to display adapters, the click on the graphic controller, open the driver tab, and hit the roll back driver button.

Driver date 8/20/2004
