studio 17 media button problem

Hello, i  have a studio 17, and for some reason the rewind button stays on and i cant use any other button. The funny thing is i rarely use the media buttons, so its not from overuse. Just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem. The machine is only 1 month old.

Cheers

I'm struggling with a very similar problem and my Studio 17 is from the same timeframe.  It is also the rewind button that is often stuck on.   I'm a bit worse off as I've installed Ubuntu and when this happens the machine stops accepting input from the keyboard.  The only solution I've found so far is to reboot repeatedly until it the light stays off.

Are you still running vista on your machine?  Did you ever find a way to resolve this?

Possible solution to Dell Studio 17 media center control button getting stuck on.

Ok, I saw a post days ago that didn't look exactly related but I finally decided to try the suggestion.   Indirectly, the claim was that the media center controls could get into a bad state that could only be addressed by shutting it completely off -- power cycling it.  This involved unplugging the computer, removing the battery, and waiting some time for and residual power to drain (i.e. 10 to 30 seconds).  This *appears* to have worked but less than 24 hours have passed since I tried this.

Hopefully others will be able to find this post.  Perhaps someone at Dell can forward this to the appropriate parties to see if there is a real fault and fix for this.

I have the same problem with my Dell Studio 17 Media center control button (rewind getting stuck) Just got the Laptop for Christmas 09 and it started doing this yesterday 2/15/2010  Has anyone talked to dell and gotten any info. I have tried to contact chat support but it appears to be down and will not work.

It went away on its own after some time but I do not understand how this problem happened. I have only used the cd/dvd player one time and never even used rewind ever? not from wear and tear thats for sure. Hope someone from dell has answers

I got my Studio 1735 at the end of 2008, and I've had this problem occur intermittently ecer since. The problem can be resolved when it occurs by removing the batter and unplugging it from the mains, leave it a few minutes, then retry.

But this week I've had it occur 3 or 4 times, so I'm going to contact Dell support as I'm still in Warranty, and would rather have it fixed as it seems like a hardware issue.

I have the same problem with my Dell Studio 17. It only started yesterday and the computer is 18 months old. It occurs with both Vista and Ubuntu, so it looks like a hardware issue.

Thanks for the battery removal workaround. It usually works, although not always.

With Ubuntu, I have disabled the rewind key (System-Preferences-Keyboard Shortcuts) and everything seems fine - at least after one day. The same symptoms appear if I enable the rewind key and hold it down, whereas if I disable the key and hold it down, the light comes on but doesn't affect the keyboard input or any other functioning. This suggests that sometimes the switch on the rewind button gets stuck on. Get it replaced under warranty if you can.

I guess Vista can do the same thing somehow.
