Windows 7 - Microsoft Word Starter
I'm probably in the wrong forum but I'm done trying to find how and where to post this, so here goes.
I've spent literally hours trying to get information from Dell regarding software installed by Dell on my Inspiron N5010, namely Microsoft Word Starter, supposedly a very basic word processor. I spent a great deal of time creating a document only to discover that I can't send it anywhere in any form. Is this just a trial copy and I have to buy it to get the full up version? I called tech support and they couldn't tell me and suggested that I buy Office 365. I don't need anything that sophisticated. I'm retired and my needs are very basic--just a basic word processor. I called sales support under the pretext of getting info about buying a new laptop and what software came with it and they couldn't tell me, just offered to help me with my purchase. Microsoft told me if it was factory installed, then I needed to call Dell. This is going to be my last attempt to get what should be very basic information before I junk this thing for an HP. NONE of the links work on this version of Word Starter including "Getting Started Guide", "Help and Support", "Purchase Office 365", "Learn More" about College Student Office 365. Everything gets a black page with "Aw Snap" Something went wrong while displaying this webpage. To continue, reload or go to another page. Learn More and up comes another Aw Snap page. What is the purpose of having this word processor installed on my laptop? Should it work or what? Sorry if I sound exasperated because I am and have little patience for going around any more circles.

Hi Konosementu,
Welcome to the Community. Office Starter 2010 is not a trial–it has a perpetual license that does not expire but with Limited-functionality on Word and Excel. It does not have Outlook or Powerpoint and includes advertising. You will need to purchase a product key to activate to a Full Version of Office 2010. It only comes pre-loaded at the time of purchase, and cannot be reinstalled. For more information click on the below link.

Hope this helps.
Thank you

Why not using
1.FREE OpenOffice - a very powerful Office package and compatible to MSOffice
download.cnet.com/.../3000-18483_4-10263109.html
(ca.120Mbyte download size)
2.FREE ABIword - a good basic Wordprocessor compatible to MSword
download.cnet.com/.../3000-2079_4-10030042.html
========================================================================
Both versions can be fully installed or could even be used as so called "portable" versions on any USBstick!

Oracle Bought Sun but Open Office is still free.
Just make sure you dont save as .ODT for Open Document Text but rather save as Office 2003 .DOC files.
OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite
I want to download OpenOffice.org
Download OpenOffice.org for free, or find out about other ways of getting it.
