6420 xfr Bluetooth

Latitude E6420 XFR

Latitude E6420 XFR

I've found a couple threads about this but not a definitive answer.

Want to add Bluetooth to a 6420 XFR that was not so equipped from factory.  One thread mentioned a combo WiFi card was needed but I've found no source or part number for such a card. But there are standalone Bluetooth cards/cables listed for this model and advertised as pulled from a working 6420 XFR.

My questions are - does this model actually require a special WLAN combo card (?) or does the (advertised/pictured) standalone card work. If the pictured card will work, where does it install? The service manual makes no mention of location in the machine. Seems I read somewhere it's under the palm rest. (?)

Welcome to the Dell Community  @RWC 3

Do not try to install the Bluetooth card from the factory.

Just remove the WiFi card installed and replace it with an Intel 6235.

Is the card installed an Intel 6205?

After the 6235 is installed the Bluetooth part of the combo card will not be seen in the BIOS.

But W10 will see it and apply all drivers and updates.

Let me know if you have any questions about the E6420 XFR.

I have refurbished hundreds of them.

Service manual here- Service Manual (dell.com)

But it is better and easier to just add a usb bluetooth adapter

Excellent, thank you.

It has no Bluetooth from factory and I'll have to open it up to check the card but according to specs from the service tag it should have the 1504 wireless card.

According to "partspeople" site, the small card pictured is supposed to be compatible but if it's under the palm rest, I don't want to go there and I trust your suggestion more than a webpage

Thank you again!

It has the I7-2640, touch screen, SSD and all the other goodies other than Bluetooth. I don't even need BT just thought It'd "finish out" the build.

Intel 6235 - will do!

@RWC 3

Lose the 1504.

Go with the Intel 6235.

16GB of memory, an SSD and an Intel I7-2640M.

With these upgrades you will be set for years to come.

@RWC 3

That would be about a $700+ system.

Very nice!
