Can't replace Latitude batteries without error
I'm having issues with Latitude 74x0 batteries.
I'm in the I.T. department within our company and for about the past year, we've been trying to extend the life of our 7470/7480/7490 model laptops. We order batteries directly from Dell, and in the case of the 7490s we've been able to call support and get a Dell technician to install a new battery. 9 times out 10, when we replace the battery we are greeted with a message that says it's not a Dell battery and the laptop won't charge it. This even happens when the Dell tech comes on site and changes the battery with the one they brought. These machines have the latest BIOS and never get to actually boot Windows. This is a BIOS message, and it is reflected in the BIOS itself in the battery section. The only solution seems to be change the motherboard as well, so the Dell tech needs another week to get the parts.
Has anyone else seen this? I think we' re pretty careful about not damaging the battery cable and these batteries are coming from Dell themselves, unless they are reselling someone else's batteries.

Does anyone have experience changing batteries in 7470/7480/7490 models?

I decided to come back to this issue. Interestingly you can purchase 7470 batteries from Dell's website, but you can't purchase 7480/7490 batteries? The replacement procedure is the same, I think Dell knows there is some kind of problem with people replacing these and pulled the batteries from their site. Why else would you be able to buy and older battery but not the newer one?
I understand you can get the battery from 3rd parties, but I think Dell has a reason they don't sell the battery directly.
