D6000 and upgrading firmware

I have tried to update the firmware (not using the USB C) for my D6000 without any luck. I disconnected everything except the power cable and used a USB 3 from laptop to dock and get a windows script host error when launching the tool. It does not seem to see the D6000 when connecting with the USB cable so I can't update the device to the AO3 firmware. My setup is a Dell latitude E5580 running Win 10 Pro 64 Bit. What am I missing?

be careful!  do not upgrade to A04 via Dock_D6000_FW_Updater_A04_F1TXX as you will brick the device with just a blinking power light on the plug from the PSU and no activity at all on the device.
