D830 motherboard replacement

20200817_112228.jpg

What model is this motherboard in my D830?  I am considering a new motherboard due to a failed video chip and want to ensure compatibility with the other existing components, CPU, wi fi, HD, fan, etc.  Any help will be appreciated.

For what a board costs, you're likely to find a complete and working, used system is a better buy - perhaps evening something newer than the D830.

It likely won't cost much more -- and possibly less - than  you'll pay for a board alone, and you'll then have a second set of spare parts.

according to https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=category&id=140&subid=151&refine=motherboard  the main difference is between discrete video and integrated video

since you have your laptop taken apart you should be able to see which one you have

Pretty Sure you are right. There was an option for just the Intel GMA (X3100), a choice between the Nvidia Quadro NVS 135M and Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M.

Everything else is/was an option that could be swapped out, such as chip, ram, hard drive, screen resolution, bluetooth (or not), modem (or not), WiFi card, and CD/DVD/BluRay/Nothing/Second HDD/Second Battery...

So, if you need a new mobo, you could get one off of eBay too, but a whole D830 would likely be more cost effective if your time is of any value to you... or maybe you like suffering through a laptop tear-down.

Full disclosure, i still have a D630c i use for running XP for some oddball reasons.

Thanks for the replys.  I learned from a parts supplier that this is an RT783 board and have one on order.  I enjoy keeping old things working and out of landfills if possible. Will see how the project goes. It's a learning experience. Already learned about thermal paste vs pads and which laptops still have RJ45 ports.
