D830 with bad display controller
The internal display will usually work at boot, but after a few minutes, it will stop displaying video, while the backlight remains on. I believe this is due to a bad solder joint, as rocking the display violently will often fix the issue. It is notable that there is an audible sound (~16khz) when the display is blank.
Edit: Now an intermittent issue.
This issue does not exist with the VGA output.
Any suggestions about how to get a replacement display driver for such an old laptop, or a recommended time and temperature for a reflow oven?

Welcome to the Dell Community @STRING_TOKEN_INVALID
You can try a flex test to see if there is a cold solder joint.
While the laptop is booted and the screen has gone blank.
Grab the display at the upper left and right corners.
Then pull one side forward and push the other side backwards about 1/2" to 1"
Repeat back and forth. "Flex Test"
Post back with any changes.
Best regards,

Thank you, but this does not seem to be a permanent solution.
