Dell Latitude 7420 sound input detection issues

Hello,

Since I use the new 7420 it doesn't detect my external audio system through the docking station or just with the jack and headsets. I put all updates from Dell Command Update. I think there is something with the firmware.

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

This didn't work. Not only that, but the Dell Optimizer is a horrible app for large businesses. I had to uninstall that almost immediately.

There is still no real fix for this issue and more and more people are getting the 7420 models and experiencing the exact same issue. These workarounds do not work with large businesses that limit user options. Every workaround Dell has suggested requires admin rights. Rolling back drivers isn't a long term solution when auto-updates are forced for our users.

Please fix this.

I've got an update. I opened Dell's Optimizer application and disabled all four components. Since I've done that on 4 different laptops, the audio issues have disappeared.

I uninstalled the Optimizer app on one machine (without first disabling the four components) and that one still has an issue.

We have a fleet of 300+ devices of the  Dell 7420.  Our fix was to deploy the Dell Max Audio to all our devices and that seemed to fix the issue.  We also had to push it to these models  5420, 5400, 7400 and the Precision 3541.

Win 11 Pro, fully updated. I am experiencing this same problem on a new 5420 and could use some advice from those who seem to have found a solution or workaround.  I am unclear about what drivers and programs I need to completely uninstall in add/remove programs and what devices I need to disable or uninstall in device manager.  Then, what do I need to leave on the machine to keep this from happening?  TIA!

The problem is ongoing. Audio tends to randomly fail, could be after a WinOS update or automated Dell Command update. We have tried a variety of RealTek drive uninstall and re-install processes. We have also tested any with and without Maxx Audio and Dell Optimizer... and sent systems in for multiple mainboard and daughter board replacements. We have pretty much resigned to living with the problem by uninstalling RealTek Audio, rolling drivers back, then reinstall or using the WinOS HD Audio default driver.

Update: I may have found a solution for this on my 5420 with Win 11 Pro.  At least it's been stable for over two hours which is 1 hour and 55 minutes more than any previous attempt at fixing this.

The specific Realtek driver needed is version 6.0.9261.1 from 11/2/2021.  Any driver newer than that causes the problem immediately, even the default driver windows will install.  To prevent further driver updates, I also added local group policy restrictions for the specific hardware IDs associated with the Realtek driver. Instructions on how to do that are here

The process I used is as follows:

  1. Uninstall Realtek drivers and or software within Add/remove programs.
  2. Reboot (Windows installs a version from April 2022 that won't work)
  3. Download and install the 6.0.9261.1 version from https://dell.to/3ln98Pi  (it will uninstall the current driver and Reboot, then install the new one and reboot again)
  4. Tested Teams by ending and starting multiple calls and switching between multiple audio devices.  I am unable to duplicate the problem again but can't say if this is a long-term fix or not. I can at least conduct business now which means I won't go hungry.

Yes, have done pretty much the same with our enterprise using a GPO and groups for all of the problematic systems. The irony and oh the irony it is, when getting into troubleshooting with Dell they stated that using a GPO was not a support solution. Running a clean system with their image is the only supported solution. I then explained that Dell Command Update and Microsoft are pushing out RealTek driver updates breaking the fix.

In my case, it was fixed by disabling in the Device Manager the Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller, but not with the OED or HUB.

I had problem when plug in my Sony XB55AP, dell latitude 7420 couldn’t recognize microphone on headphone. After trying many ways, I figured out that I had to choose headset instead of headphone in dell optimizer
