Hello!
I replaced the i3-3210m with the i7-3632qm processor.
The latest BIOS is on A21.
The machine does not recognize the processor.
Only max. 2.2GHz running.
It accelerated a little compared to the old one.
In the Passmark test, the old CPU is about 3300 and the new is 4400.
Have any idea on the problem?

Nice I have just put in the 3720qm, 45W tdp, but the heatsink is ok for that, temperatures are fine. Runs great now.

@koii69 If you are using windows 10, go to "devices manager", then click on processors. You may find 4 or 8 lines of the same name. right click each one and UNINSTALL them, all and each of them. Reboot your pc and done. I have a dell e5430 and installed the "safe" i7 3520 and had the same problem and thats how I solved it.

Friend @Frank Mayo , sorry bothering you again. But can you tell me one year later, your notebook is fine? Have you had any working or heat problems?

Welcome to the Dell Community @themounper

Yes it should work.

https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i5_Mobile/i5-3210M_(PGA).html

It may run a little warmer because the TDP is 45 and the system is made for 35 TDP.

If you want an increase in performance and maintain system integrity upgrade to a CPU with the same TDP.

Like the Core i7-3632QM:

I upgraded my E5430 to an i7 3720qm to replace the i5 3320m that this machine shipped with. It works perfectly except its limited to 40W instead of 45W, but it still hits 3.1GHZ all core 3.6 single core and the iGPU still hits above 1GHZ. I never hit above 100C even at full load using Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste. This chip was from a E6530 with the NVIDIA GPU and it runs cooler in this E5430 than the E6530 using the same NT-H2

I installed the i7-3840QM in 12/2024 and so far it is working perfectly. The average temperature where I live is 38º (very hot).
I am very satisfied.
