@JollySixpence  Try undocking your system and then connecting the docking station's power supply directly to your system.  Does your system detect a power source?  If not, you probably just need a new 130W power adapter for the dock.  If the power supply works properly when directly connected, then it might be the dock.  These days it's pretty easy to get an E-Port dock without an included power supply, and they're not very expensive (about the same cost as a Dell 130W power supply, in fact).  The only alternative docking stations you could consider with that system would be docks that plug into regular USB ports and rely on "indirect display" technology like DisplayLink -- not to be confused with DisplayPort.  But DisplayLink introduces some drawbacks that can be significant in most cases, and none of those docks will be able to charge your system.  If you want a dock that can charge that system, your only options are the E-Port and E-Port Plus docks.

@JollySixpence  The lowest wattage power adapter that the E-Port docks were ever sold with was 130W, although in some cases they had higher wattage adapters to run high end systems with higher power requirements.  A 130W dock power supply is plenty for an E5430, but a 65W might not be.  But just to verify that the 130W power adapter is good, try plugging it directly into your system while the system is undocked to see if your system detects a power source, as I suggested in the first place. There's absolutely no risk plugging a higher wattage Dell power adapter into a Dell system, since the system will only draw what it needs.  I've had a 130W adapter in my living room for years and I've used it without any problems with systems designed for 45-130W.  If you confirm that the power adapter works properly when connected directly to your system, then it does sound like a dock issue.

There were two power adapters that came with my Latitude and E-Port II docking station:

(1) a 65W AC adapter  Model # LA65MN130

(2)AC Adapter Model # DA130PE1-00

Currently (2) is plugged into my docking station.  But the Power button on the docking station does not light-up  (blue) like it used to.  I have tried plugging (1) into the docking station, but the Power button does not light-up.
