E6540 HDMI Not Working

I have a Dell E6540 that works with external monitors via the VGA connection, but not the HDMI connection coming out of the laptop.  I search the forum and multiple posts talk about issues connecting to a monitor, and they trouble-shoot the monitor itself.  The monitor is not my problem because this monitor works great on my desktop computer, and I have tried more than 1 HDMI monitor in this HDMI connection on my E6540.  The issue appears to be the post on the E6540

Previously I had a Dell E6320 which appeared to have the same issue.  I never could get the HDMI port to work with any monitor.  It is almost like the port itself is turned off on the laptop.

I checked the BIOS and nothing in the BIOS at all lists settings for an HDMI port.  Nothing found.  When I connect the HDMI cable to the computer, no connection sound is heard.  Pressing FN-F8 does nothing.

I just need to know how to enable to the HDMI port in this laptop, or is it simply not supported in Windows 10?

Is the laptop running Windows 10?

If so, is it version 20H2 or something else?

That is v1909

Since then there has been 2004 and now 20H2.

I have a E6230 running Windows 10 Pro  20H2, and I do see the choice of HDMI when I connect up to my TV.

The video driver is very important as is the chipset driver. Did you do anything about them?
