E7270 i7-6600 cpu high temperature->loud cpu fan-> shut down
I replaced heatsink using an identical one from a dead E7270. New thermal paste. Dell factory used a lot of paste originally. Temperature max is still quite high in the 80s-90s idle, but not crazy high -> shut down. My other E7270 w i5 has no such issue. Maybe i7-6600 has higher TDP than i5-6300?
I do not see any thermal event recorded in bios though, but I know when I touched the heatsink it was scorching. Could it be motherboard was revving cpu inappropriately? I already updated bios to latest. Windows 11 clean install.
after I left it all day idle with heatsink replaced current temp is 25C, but max temp is 85-87.

Dell is tracking multiple temperature sensors on the motherboard that will control fan speed as well as trigger a power off if a certain threshold is hit.
3rd party tools like hwinfo can give you information on most thermals. If I recall correctly they are stated as "Temp Other 1, 2, 3, 4" or something like that.
These additional sensors are located on the motherboard. Anyways, in any case they should log a thermal event.
