Erratic printing problem

Dell Latitude E6530 Windows 10 Pro will not print to HP 1020 Laser jet

It has been ok in the past, but now only if I muck about for an hour doing various random things it might start to work but what got it to work, wont work the next time. Once it starts to work it will print ok until I switch the printer off and then as soon as I switch it back on it fails to print again.

So it seems like there is a fault with the laptop communicating with the printer

Friends Lenovo laptop will print to it without any problem

Things I have tried

  • New toner

  • Different leads

  • Different USB ports, including the ones on the Dell docking station

  • Uninstalled / Installed the printer (numerous times)

  • Uninstalled / Installed the driver (numerous times)

  • Checked Dell drivers are up to date via Dell Support

  • Installed and ran HP Diagnostics doctor

  • Ran Windows Troubleshoot

  • Ran Windows update

  • Ran Windows Safety scanner

  • Ran Malware bytes

  • Ran Trend Micro House call virus scanner

  • Ran Dell Support Assist

  • Not aware of any new programs installed

  • Created a new windows login user in case mine was corrupt

  • Re-installed BIOS

Any help would be appreciated

I have now done a Windows Reset to solve the problem once and for all.

Is there are newer version of BIOS?

Are you running v21H1 of Windows 10?

Is there a chance your anti-virus is causing the problem?

I have done a clean boot after disabling all services. The printer now works ok.

Does anybody know how I can identify which service is causing the problem.
