Headset mic doesn't work after Windows updates (Latitude 5480)
My Bose 25 headset with inline mic has worked fine on my Latitude 5480 until I installed the following updates from Microsoft today per the Windows update history:
- Feature update to Windows 10, version 2004
- Cumulative update for .NET (KB4565627)
- Security update for Flash Player (KB4561600)
- Security Intelligence Update (KB2267602)
- Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - MEDIA - 11/9/2018 12:00:00 AM - 6.0.1.8569 (2)
I have no idea why it installed that version of the Realtek driver, and I don't recall specifically telling it to do that "update," but it's there in today's update history. I have since downloaded and installed (TWICE) the latest driver from the Dell support site (6.0.8895.1, A23).
Since the updates, audio output works fine, but it doesn't recognize that there's a mic plugged in (I'm using the correct cable, which was tested and is working fine on another computer). As mentioned, I've tried repeatedly uninstall/reinstall the latest driver with no change. Since I depend on the headset for daily business calls, this is alarming, to say the least. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: I'm really not a Windows guy, but I found an option to revert to the previous version of Windows 10. I did that, and now the mic seems to be working again. Would love to know if there's something more I could have done, since I'm now gunshy about installing any updates.

This worked for me
Check under privacy settings
Right click on the sound icon near clock in toolbar -> Microphone Privacy Settings -> MICROPHONE ACCESS FOR THIS DEVICE IS ON/OFF
Also check - ALLOW APPS TO ACCESS YOUR MIC
and then down further, ALLOW DESKTOP APPS TO ACCESS YOUR MICROPHONE.
Hope this works for you.
