Latitude 5480 touchpad problems

The other day I was happily using my laptop, several tabs loaded in Chrome, when I apparently hit some key sequence, one of the tabs moved to a separate window, my cursor disappeared and my touchpad stopped working. After two days of trying everything I could find searching for solutions, and finally deleting the touchpad and letting Windows find it again, it's mostly working - the cursor is back, the touchpad moves it, tapping works - but the buttons don't work. The Dell Touchpad panel shows the buttons enabled, but they aren't. Is there anything I can do to get this working like it did Sunday morning at 6:30, not at 6:31?

Thanks,

Harry

Check Chrome settings. Try Edge or Firefox. You can install other browsers and still keep Chrome. Good for checking problems like this. There are some weird key shortcuts in browsers.

This isn't just in the browser, though, it's anything. The touchpad buttons don't function at all.

I did a factory reset and the touchpad buttons still don't work, even though in the touchpad settings they are set to "On". I find it hard to believe that there is no way to fix this, or that the buttons failed simple because I moved a browser tab to a new window. But I can find no way to get them working. Note that the touchpad itself works fine, just not the buttons.
