Latitude 7400 external microphone not detected

Hello,

We are using Latitude 7400 external and Windows 10 Enterprise 1803.

The problem is that no external microphone is recognized when plugged in into the 3.5 mm Jack. No matter if is a headset or a stand-alone microphone, the laptop will still use its embedded mic.

Currently the latest version of Realtek High Definition Audio Driver is installed (6.0.8777.1) but we also tried with older versions 6.0.8716.1 and 6.0.1.8186 without any luck.

The Playback and Recording panels look like bellow

playback.PNGrecording.PNG

MaxxAudio won't install on Latitude 7400 therefore RtkNGUI64.exe is not available.

Please advise!

I've got the same issue since November, and I've just tried the newer 6.0.8838.1 driver and the 3.5mm port still doesn't work. My playback and recording panels are the same as yours.

Hi @samreed, thank you for writing on the community. Please private message us the service tag of the system along with the version of the BIOS, windows 10 enterprise OS. Has this always been the case since you started using the system or is this a recent change?

Our team is also seeing this issue.  No external headset works with the audio jack. USB headsets work just fine.  Win10-1809 is the OS, and it's brand new, so it's always done this.

Was able to get it to work with MaxxAudioPro on my Latitude 7400.

Not sure why it won't install on your device or if you mean something else though.

Here is what I did.

I installed the latest auido driver: https://www.dell.com/support/home/de/de/debsdt1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=fcpp2&oscode=wt64a&productcode=latitude-14-7400-laptop

Then the MaxxAudioPro application:https://www.dell.com/support/home/de/de/debsdt1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=m85dd&oscode=wt64a&productcode=latitude-14-7400-laptop

I needed to connect the device again so I could choose which device has been connected at the MaxxAudioPro software (I guess you can choose it somehow else). I took "Sprechgarnitur" (really bad german translation for headset) and it was working.

Hello - I suffered through this for weeks, but finally found the right solution.

The problem is that IT departments often leave out adding the Media Pack to Windows, which is needed for the MaxxAudio software.  You can confirm this is the issue by going to MaxxAudio - and you will often get an error that your drivers are not up to date.  If you click on the sound test in the bottom right, it will tell you that you need the Media Pack.

However, you can't just download this from Microsoft.

You need to go to "Manage Optional Features" in Windows settings, and then add the Media Features Pack.  REBOOT (you do not get a warning that you need to do this).

Voilla - things will now work.  When you plug your headset into the 3.5mm plug, MaxxAudio will come up and ask you what you plugged in.

FYI, if you once or twice felt like things worked without this process, I noticed that before I added the media pack the earbuds would work if I booted the system WITH the earbuds plugged in.  But once you pull them out, it no longer works.

You must keep the MaxxAudio software and Dell Realtek drivers.  If you removed them, you should reinstall them from the Dell support site.

Let me know if this works!

Uninstalling the devices in device manager and anything Realtek-related in add/remove programs worked for me. After a restart, Windows put it's own drivers in and they worked fine.

Thanks to jddfw for this answer: https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/Dell-7400-Headphone-Jack-Not-Working/m-p/7676172/highlight/true#M25095

EDIT: Spoke too soon. Works when I plug into my dock, but not when I plug into the jack on the laptop. Big improvement for me anyway.

marcoperezza,

Have you selected headset and make it as the default device?

Hello

I have the same problem.

There's no option to select headset with microphone.

Only headset or headphone are valid option when I insert the jack.

In the Control Pane, Audio input, only Microphone Array can be selected.

Same issue here.  None of the previously posted suggestions have worked.

I was able to fix my issue by installing the Maxx Audio Pro application from the Dell Drivers site.  I then unplugged my earbud / mic combo.  I plugged them back in and received a pop-up asking me what device had just been plugged in.  I selected earbuds, but I think this is what causes the issue.  The application thinks you only have a listening device.  I unplugged again then plugged it back in again and this time I selected Headset - On ear (on the ear headphones) and it worked.  If you do not get a pop up, go to Advanced on the first tab and select "Show pop up dialog when device is connected".
