Latitude E5550 - Replacement 62Wh Battery Does Not Work
I want to replace an old battery in my Dell Latitude E5550, so I purchased an original Dell 62Wh replacement battery (model number is 6MT4T). However, when I install the new battery it is not charging in the laptop and the amber battery LED is blinking. If I try to start the laptop, an error message is displayed that the primary battery was not detected. If I install my old battery (which is 51Wh that came with laptop), everything works fine. So there are no issues with the connectors / hardware / etc. It is clearly the new battery... I have the latest BIOS installed. Could this problem with charging be related that this type of battery is only supported in newer generation of E5550 (62WH new vs 51Wh old)? Is there anything that can be done to make the new battery work?

Did you purchase the battery from Dell? Parts-People actually show the 6MT4T as the battery for the E5470 and E-5570 and the R0TMP for the E5450 and E-5550. Even though other sites show the battery you purchased as compatible to all models, it makes me wonder if the R0TMP is the correct battery. And the Dell part site shows a completely different battery again. A JC5DM, the site link is below.

I must admit that I did not buy the battery from Dell directly, but from a distributor. I know there is a little bit of confusion regarding the batteries for E5550, as there are two types, i.e. 51Wh and 62Wh.
I was told that this one should be compatible with my laptop, but I cannot get it to charge or be detected by the laptop.
Any ideas if there is anything that can be done to make it work? Or should I be returning the battery?

@Dakoby I'm sure you bought the battery so that you could have more battery life but apparently the 62wh has a 7.6v output and latitude e5550 has a 7.4v output I dunno about others but For me, my laptop powered on with the 62wh but it didn't charge maybe my charger be weak I dunno, but my laptop wasn't functioning so well either. 8 ultimately ended up returning the battery for a 62wh one which worked just fine on my laptop.
The summary of all that's been said is:
1. For dell latitude e5550 use a 51wh or lesser battery. The battery life on my PC with the 62 wh was way more than the 51wh but at least the 51 wh works and charges.
2. The latitude e5550 is compatible with an output voltage of 7.4v. That's a key thing to note when searching for the battery of any laptop.
If anyone else was considering the the 62wh,..... Don't. Save yourself the trouble
