Latitude e7450 won't power on

Hey there!

I got secound hand dell letitude e7450 and it worked perfectly. 2 days ago i just tried to power on and it didn't succeeded. Once he was runing and i could hear the fan runs then got this red yellow blue falshes.. Turn off and since then its dead!

When the cord is connected i get the charging light up. When i press power button he gets off and power button have secound or to of light and nothing. If i tap on keyboard during trying to power on the computer it will last for a bit more and get quick flash from the keyboard light and again falling. I tired to take off battery and cord and press the power button for one minute, run only on power cord or battery with the same results..

I hope that i can fix it asap as i have to work on it and can't afford new laptop atm.

Thanks a lot for your time and attention,

Yosef

Welcome to the Dell Community @Djedjehasi

Try disconnecting the battery.

Then disconnect the BIOS coin-cell battery.

With both disconnected attach the AC adapter for just a few seconds.

Then connect both batteries.

Connect the AC.

The laptop should automatically try to boot 3 times.

Best regards,

Thanks @U2CAMEB4ME for quick response! I have tried your suggestion and still have the same result as on the original post. Might be that the this BIOS coin-cell battery is damaged and replacement is needed? Does it hard to find them? Or could be any other solution for the situation?

@Djedjehasi

Hold down the " D " key and power-on.

Let it complete the test and it will automatically try to boot.

Post your results.

  • A screeshot of my notes since I couldn't add a Word doc. The left pic there's normally 3 in parallel in a row, but pic was taken with 2 removed.
  • If the ring light on the power supply goes out as soon as you plug it into the computer, and comes back on if unplugged and AC unplugged/plugged into the wall.
  • It may be this. Involves total teardown of the computer completely removing the main board, frame is in the way to even measure them, and minor experience soldering skills, I use 2 soldering irons to heat both sides so you don't damage the path. Or use enough solder to heat the whole cap til it lifts. When adding, best to use flux, as they're likely to not flow
  • It's a common problem, the chip capacitors in the power circuit are shorted, I just replace all the ones noted, I've done close to 10 of ours.
  • You need to remove to test anyways because they're in parallel. Measure in circuit will show dead short across
