Have you ever replaced the main battery? It is overdue for replacement--5+ yrs old- and you need a genuine Dell battery from Dell or a Dell Parts supplier. If you cannot find a replacement, try removing the battery and use the adapter alone. If that works, use it as a desktop replacement until you can buy a new computer. Don't buy batteries from marketplace sellers. That can be risky.
Check the bios to see if the adapter is recognized.
