No start up
I have a Latitude e6540 with the i7-4810mq. Plug it in and the power button illuminates and the power led on the outside stays lit. Press the start button and a little blue dot next to the caps lock button comes on for a half a second but nothing else happens. The DVD drive works but the computer does not power up. Had a computer person look at it and he said it was doa. He said it's probably the motherboard. What motherboard is the correct one? . I need help and am on a tight budget.

Welcome to the Dell Community @Nhanced
Hold down the “ D “ key and power-on.
The laptop should go through an LCD test of solid White, Red, Green, Blue and Black 2 or 3 times.
After completion it should try to automatically boot 2 or 3 times.
If it does not boot, then the next thing would be to disconnect the BIOS/CMOS battery.

Disconnect the AC adapter and remove/disconnect the “Main” battery.
Disconnect the “Coin-Cell” battery.
Connect ONLY the AC adapter for 5-10 seconds.
Then disconnect the AC adapter.
Connect the “Coin-Cell and Main” batteries ONLY.
Turn the laptop over and open the lid.
NOW connect the AC adapter.
It should try to automatically boot 2-3 times.
Post your results.
Best regards,
U2
