Question about Type-C Adapter

Hi

I have a Dell Latitude 7300 and DA300 mobile adapter.
I love the adapter, it is great. Multiple connections like LAN, HDMI, VGA, USB really helpful when I on travel or doing onsite service.

But I have a strange issue with DisplayPort came with the device. When this mobile adapter connected with my HDTV(4k) over DisplayPort-to-HDMI connection. It could not display any output. I did log this issue to support and I got my replacement mobile adapter. Even so my problem still persists and keep puzzling me until now.

About the DisplayPort cable it can be used on my desktop computer, it has DP (Dual-Mode) I guess this explain my cable is working.

To keep it simple my connection is like this.
Laptop(DA300) --> DisplayPort-to-HDMI --> HDTV = No Display
Laptop(DA300) --> HDMI cable --> HDTV = Got display
Desktop(DP DualMode) --> DisplayPort-to-HDMI --> HDTV = Got Display

Appreciate your help.

@khaimamy  Dual Mode DisplayPort is an optional feature of DisplayPort outputs, and it likely isn't available on the DA300's DP output.  But given that it also has an HDMI output and the DA300 only allows running one display at a time, i.e. you couldn't run your TV from DP and some other display via HDMI simultaneously, I'm not entirely sure why you're trying to use DP to HDMI to your TV in the first place rather than just using the HDMI output.  They both have the same capabilities, namely up to 1440p 60 Hz or 4K 30 Hz when you're using the DA300 with a DisplayPort HBR2 over USB-C system like yours, or 4K 60 Hz output when you have a DisplayPort HBR3 system.

It's also worth pointing out that relying on Dual Mode DisplayPort even when it's available can be problematic, because there's the question of which revision of native HDMI signaling the DP output even supports.  For example, a DP output that can run up to 4K 60 Hz when using native DisplayPort signaling might only support 4K 30 Hz / 1440p 60 Hz, or even just 1080p 60 Hz, when using native HDMI signaling via Dual Mode DisplayPort.

Bottom line is that I don't think there's anything wrong with the DA300.  It just doesn't have support for the optional feature you're trying to use.  If for some reason you really need to use the DP output to run an HDMI display/TV rather than the HDMI output, then you can get an active DP to HDMI adapter like this one.  That adapter allows the source to continue using native DisplayPort signaling, i.e. no Dual Mode DisplayPort, because the adapter has an active signal converter chip to switch the signal to HDMI.  But even though that adapter will support up to 4K 60 Hz, if the source port doesn't support that, as is the case with your setup, then the adapter isn't going to add capabilities that don't exist at the source.
