Try this site for case. I do not see a case for the 7420 but I would contact them. Also contact Dell sales they have a case here for the 7320 and may offer one for the 7420. A Google search also turns up other sources for cases.
Thanks a lot JOcean. I saw the products, As they look, they are probably built to protect the screen. I was looking more for a solution that would make this edgy thing a bit smoother for me and my furniture. I just found that cover . Not quite sure it does the job, cause it envelopes the laptop completely and may make it difficult to open the laptop for tablet mode. I just contacted the seller to know more.
there is no doubt the techos who make these computers don't actually test them and use them as a laptop.
The front edges are right angle and just dig into your hands when you use it as a laptop without an external keyboard and mouse, which defeats the purpose of it supposedly being a LAPTOP and it becomes vey uncomfortable to use in a short period of time.
The touchpad is garbage. if you use it as a laptop and use the touchpad you have to disable all tapping and double tapping on the touchpad otherwise you type and the cursor jumps all over the place, deleting stuff and dragging and dropping text when i haven't instigated the action
i emailed Dell several times and got no response to this. i tried their useless support assistant that just made me want to throw the bloody computer in the bin. There is no email contact that they will answer. I i sat on the queue for the phone for several goes waiting half an hour then giving up.
I will never buy a laptop or pc from dell again and i will never recommend them to others again. The laptop might be garbage but trying to resolve the issue with dell and getting someone to discuss it with me is shocking. no replies. nothing. really really poor
i am really disappointed because i have used dell for the best part of 20 years and have encouraged others who I do IT work for to use them. Never again.
My Inspiron 7420 2 in 1 back edge is razor sharp which has cut my finger twice as it accidently slid over the edge. Dell management keeps denying this and falsely tells me that no other customer has complained of thereby implying that I am the problem and not the laptop. This is despite that their two technicians who came to replace confirmed the back edge to be razor sharp and the replacement palm rest that they sent also had razor sharp edge. The second technician called Dell from my home and confirmed that the back edge is razor sharp. (Dell is denying that any technician reported this, though I have voice recording of the communication.)
I wrote to Michael Dell and yesterday (04/06.2023) one Gentleman from Dell Advanced Solutions called and continued the denial approach saying that there is no such reported complaint and that none of the technicians reported back informing of sharp edge. I requested him to avoid being evasive and just get his hand on another piece of the same model and check for himself.
The whole approach of Dell is pathetic when it comes to handling their failures.
I have series of email communications with Dell and posts on their Facebook page but the shameless denial to accept design failure continues unabated.
Just bought an Inspiron 16 and like earlier posts, the edges along the base of the laptop are really sharp. This is poor design and disappointing. I'm following this up with Dell.

Presumably, the system is new; if it is, you have 30 days from the date of shipment to return it for a refund.

Years later and the same problem on the G15 2023 with its sharp corners. It seems that Dell engineers don't really test their products.
