But if you look at the release date and not the update it was 2014. Since the version is the same as what you have installed already, there is no way to force it as the versions are compared and you already have A14. Now why does Dell release date and update dates differ..? I wish I knew and even moderators don't have a grasp on it. These forum posts may help but it is very confusing.

According to the Dell support site for the E5420, A14 is the newest version. That version is displayed here. And I would not go looking for a BIOS version that is not listed on the Dell support site. That is asking for problems.

Thanks for the speedy reply JOcean.  You will see that the site you directed me to shows a version of BIOS A14 updated on 14 Nov. 2018.  I have gone through the process of downloading this update and double clicking to install it but each time I still seem to end up with the 2013 version. Do I have to try a Forced update (If that is the correct terminology)?
