Windows boot crashes from external disk over usb
Latitude E5470
i have a Dell Latitude E5470 . Currently, i have installed Linux Ubuntu on that Dell. But i would also like to try the following : Having a quite old HP laptop (with much lower performance than Dell) which runs Windows 7 making use of a quite new Samsung SSD , i would like to use that SSD and connect it at Dell's USB port . It seems that Dell's recognizes Samsung SSD as external (storage at least) disk over USB without a problem. But i would also like to try the following : boot windows from that ext SSD over USB . I have changed BIOS configuration and boot sequence and indeed laptop starts-up and Windows seems to boot from that external disk but at some point after Windows logo and before "login" page, the boot crashes with a blue screen [ i am not sure if something worth mentioning is being printed on this blue screen since laptop restarts almost immediately ]. In theory SSD was working without a problem on the old HP but that HP had performance issues. Any idea about that blue screen upon laptop's start-up ?

There are a number of issues you will face:
The E5470 was the last generation of hardware that had support for Windows 7, and it doesn't have full support with any out of the box Windows 7 distribution (Microsoft never updated any of the released Windows 7 installers with full USB 3.0 support, for one). Taking an OS installed in a foreign system and trying to boot it in the Dell even installed internally is going to require challenging tinkering. That's before you add in the complication of booting from a USB 3 hardware set that isn't going to be set up correctly on the moved Windows install disc.
You can sometimes get Windows to boot from an external installation, but it's going to require reinstalling to the external drive when that's connected to the E5470 to have any hope of working. You just will not get the existing install to boot from an external USB drive.
