Wifi not working Precision 5510 ubuntu
I just received my precision 5510 with Ubuntu and am disappointed that the wifi will not connect to either of the access points in my home. The machine is fresh out of the box with no updates, I thought I had read that this was working with this system. I will supply any logs or run any tests to get this figured out. Since I believe this is supposed to be supported from the factory I am holding off from adding any package repos and installing/updating any packages until I can do some additional debugging.

For some reason it seems that you aren't getting a repository that should give you the updated intel8260 firmware. Try to load up these two packages and see if things improve:
http://dell.archive.canonical.com/pool/public/w/wifi-intel8260-firmware/wifi-intel8260-firmware_1.3_all.deb
http://dell.archive.canonical.com/pool/public/b/btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-dkms/btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-dkms_1.7_all.deb
If they do, we need to figure out why one of the repositories isn't offering them for you.

I checked the packages list in those distribution and they do not contain the two packages you provided. I did some further searching and did find them in the distribution:
So my guess is that this is a development repository and the packages have not been pushed to the released repos. I confirmed that the packages contained in that distribution have md5sums that match the links you provided.

First off Dell - props you guys really worked on this linux machine and I appreciate it - this product is fantastic.
I also had this issue out of the box with my precision 5510, I couldn't connect to some networks and others worked -
the command - sudo rmmod iwlmvm iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlmvm iwlwifi worked for me also. I will try to update the packages as is shown the previous post and see how that works.

I had the same issue. The rmmod modprobe fixed it for me.

Update: The issue has not recurred since the installation of the packages supplied above.
Any update on when these might be made available to other users via the repositories? It's a shame to have a fix that isn't being distributed.

Same issue here with a brand new Precision 5510 and Ubuntu 14_04.
The below from djibi2 seemed to fix the WiFi functionality, but the apt-get update errors about missing firmware remained
sudo rmmod iwlmvm iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlmvm iwlwifi
Installing the two .deb packages from Dell-Mario fixed also the apt-get errors:
http://dell.archive.canonical.com/pool/public/w/wifi-intel8260-firmware/wifi-intel8260-firmware_1.3_all.deb
http://dell.archive.canonical.com/pool/public/b/btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-dkms/btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-dkms_1.7_all.deb

I am having a problem that sounds exactly like those described in this thread. Brand new Dell Precision 5510. Out-of-the-box the wifi works fine. After the initial set of updates are installed, the wifi no longer works.
I've tried the solutions posted in this thread, but they do not work. Only 1 of the two packages you listed installs. The other complains of a "quality" issue of some sort.

Can you get the exact wording of the "quality" error?

The popup reads as follows:
The package is of bad quality
The installation of a package which violates the quality standards isn't allowed. This could cause serious problems on your computer. Please contact the person or organisation who provided this package file and include the details beneath.
Details:
Lintian check results for /home/jim/Downloads/btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-dkms_1.7_all.deb:
E: btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-dkms: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object usr/src/btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-1.7/kconf/conf
E: btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-dkms: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object usr/src/btusb-iwlwifi-intel8260-1.7/kconf/mconf
I've clicked "ignore and install" and it seems to install correctly. But the wifi still doesn't work.

I have the exact same problem and it's December 10, 2016. My new Precision 5510 worked out of the box, but I got these system error messages and was prompted to run updates. These were Canonical only, not third party, so I clicked "install". Now, no Wifi, no Bluetooth, USB is flakey (the external drive wont work)...and I'm still getting that system error message. Apparently, Dell or Canonical didn't do anything since the promised fixes mentioned above. My kernel is 3.19.0.77-generic. This is a factory installed Ubantu, that arrived around 4:00 pm 12/09/2016. It worked fine out of the box and I got an error and a message to run the updates. I did. And it went "south" after. Still getting the error message and a prompt to send it to canonical... Called Dell "Pro Support". No one to work on these on weekends. Earliest possible service is Tuesday. The factory Installed version of Ubuntu is 14.04.1, installed Dec 5 11:19:02 UTC 2016.
Worse, I bought the three year support package and got nowhere. The first person was from India and said his records indicated the computer was five days old (Inteceived it at 4:00 p.m. 12/09 from FedEx). Then transferred to someone else in India. Then transferred to the US. NO ONE had the slightest idea of even how Ubuntu is supposed to work. Told to call on Mondays to schedule an appointment with an "expert" sometime later in the week.. So much for 24/7 business support. I'm evaluating these for purchase by several businesses and Dell knew this. This is unacceptable. A known problem, not fixed in over six months. Then, lack of support when if crashes.

Mike,
I greatly apologize for your experience. I have just shot off an email to the person who owns the Precision line in Dell to look into this. Stay tuned

Well, Dell came through. 14.04 IS unstable for business use. The tech walked me through installing 16.94. Everything seems to work but the graphics driver and he just sent me that. The Precision 5510 is really nice hardware. I hope Dell just forgets about Canonical and uses the generic 16.04 release. I created a VirtualBox (5.1.10 with extensions) for Windows 7 Pro, added Office, and installed MSSQL. Now, I'm going to beta test Microsoft's Native SQL Server and can run some benchmarks. I'm going to put this build through a series of business related tests and honestly hope it passes. It will be pretty cool to see several hundred of these in use by our analysts. I promise to keep you updated.

Well, you have some really good people. Alex C. (Email me or call for his name) worked very hard to fix this. He was finally figured out that 14.04 has problems working with your hardware and gave me information to get a bootable install for generic 16.04. That seems to work with everything but the graphics card and he found a driver for that! If he was my employee, I would give him a large Christmas bonus. If my tests work out, we will be buying several hundred Precisions just like mine...and Alex will be responsible for that. Your technical people are your best salesmen and, having worked with computers since the early 1980's, he is one of the best tech'S I have dealt with. Kudo for Dell Service.
