18.04 (Upgrade) on XPS 9360
Mine came with 16.04. I tried the official instructions for the online upgrade, but it failed. I wasn't surprised nor deterred. I simply installed from a regular Ubuntu 18.04 ISO. Everything's fine but for a few niggling issues: the volume control keys don't work and both suspend and hibernate are imperfect. I'm still under warranty but Support won't help me with upgrading. My real request was simply that the technicians post somewhere at least an outline of what it takes to tweak Ubuntu to work so perfectly in the first place.
Given I find it unlikely Dell would do this, I was wondering if there was a way we users could come up with a consistent body of information that helps folks transition their systems to Ubuntu 18.04. Do we have here the expertise to give the wider user community out there a little help? Now that systems are shipping with 18.04, perhaps we can discover the secrets Dell support seems unwilling to discuss.
So far I've found the standard issue with Ubuntu's enabling hibernate, plus this and this, but instead of coming out of hibernation, it simply reboots. Suspend works okay, but I can't disable the login prompt coming back. What am I missing? As for the keyboard, I suspect I can work that out later if it matters, using the obscure built-in Linux input utilities.
I'm willing to put together a tutorial page and host it somewhere if there's anyone here interested in sharing their experience and expertise.

FYI: I've figured out how to activate the volume keys for XFCE desktop -- install xfce4-volumed.
I also fixed hibernate. Is it permitted to post a tutorial on that here?

As no one objected, could you please post the tutorial?
