Fedora 9 (which comes out in 12 days) has built-in CDMA and GSM support in both NetworkManager and HAL

AFAIK that is the first distro to have built-in support without installing extra packages or source code

If you are looking for a distro that has the latest and greatest as far as compat and apps, Fedora is the way to go.  If you are looking for simplicity, PCLinuxOS is probably the easiest -- I haven't much experience in Ubuntu, so can't really comment on it other than I don't like how the filesystem and naming conventions ignore the fact that there is a kernel - I think Ubuntu assumes too much, similarly to Gnome, but in Gnome it works better ... mainly that users are frightened of weird and big words, or using the command line.

Anyway -- my two cents ;-)

Have been with SuSe for a while and Love it..The best feature is the the tools that are used for Configuration.  Highly rated.  On SuSe's web site there is a list of hardware compatible resource that cost nothing and is valuable.

Tried Mandrake, Redhat, and SuSE 9.1 on an older computer, learning, compairing, with SuSE, it is superior.  Configuration of hardware is key to enjoyment.

Quick Tip:  If you have an oportunity to Partition would recomend Winxp on a Fat32 File system...Linux with Duel Boot will enable you to have the power that MS is only now beginning  to comprehend.  A click of a mouse and you can use and transfer files as if you were usings Winxp ..Use them in Linux,  return them to Winxp with the changes..The security is the important factor, for linux is far more secure and safer.

Current: Have SuSe 10.1/winxp Duel Boot on 2 Dell Laptops and seldom use winxp.

The reason Iam in this Forum is to search for answers for Winxp  Not  for  Linux.

Thanks for your attention and best of luck.
