Dell linux computers (not) around the world?
I am concerned because I found out that dell will not be selling linux computers in some countries (e. g. in Sweden, which affects me).
If this is true then it is a major miscalculation. There will be loads of disappointed people out there.
I would like to urge the people in charge to make Dells with preinstalled Linux availible ANYWHERE Dell is selling computers.
Quite frankly I really didnt think Dell would even consider pulling such a number. Its plane stupid!

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
I will post here in this forum any information that comes up if Dell starts shipping Linux systems to other countries. I will also relay the amount of interested customers in other parts of the World to my management that are interested in Dell shipping Linux to other countries.

I am currently advising eweryone that is thinking about bying a Dell linux computer to call there local dell sales number in there country and let them know this beacause the bigger the demand is, the faster it will go before they will be awailible around the world.
If the local sales offices around the world gets a couple of thousends calls about this ewery week, then there decision might change a bit sooner.
Just remeber to be polight when you do this and tell them that if they dont whant to sell you a Linux based computer they will loose you as a custumer and that there are other companies that do sell linux based computers
just take a look at these sites to find one near where you live
http://www.linux.org/vendor/system/desktop.html
http://www.linux.org/vendor/system/laptop.html
http://system76.com/
http://tuxmobil.org/reseller.html
If you live in sweden you can visit www.GGsdata.se they do sell laptops with Ubuntu preinstalled
If Dell dont whant you as a custumer then dont buy from them but atleast let them know why its al about money for them and they do want to make a bigger profit
Reed more about this issue in my blogg on aftonbladet.se

(its in swedish)

Yes, I will go for an Inspiron E1505n with Ubuntu as soon as it becomes available in Germany (the lack of proper Linux support is the point which kept me from purchasing a notebook until now) and I am sure many others will do so, too.

I have recently introduced my father to Linux, and he has also grown to love it. We were both excited about the notion of purchasing a brand new Linux-only machine. As a matter of fact, I was intending to BUY a "Dellinux" today... only to find that www.dell.CA couldn't help me, and that www.dell.COM couldn't ship here because of restrictions imposed by www.dell.CA!!!
My father, upon hearing about this, expressed his own disappointment, since he had also been considering buying a new machine if Ubuntu were available as an option from Dell.
After phoning www.dell.CA customer support, we were kindly told that the demand simply wasn't sufficient yet, and that it is unlikely that www.dell.CA would even be selling Ubuntu machines during 2007! I understand this issue, and do not fault Dell for it's implementation, but if the issue is merely a lack of demand, then count this post as demand for two Ubuntu machines in Canada! Here's hoping that www.dell.CA either begins offering Ubuntu machines, or at least permits www.dell.COM to ship Ubuntu machines to Canada.

I have communicated to management about how many people around the world that are wanting Dell to make available Linux systems to other countries. All I can say at this point is that Dell is aware of the interest. I will post here in the forum if any information if they decide to ship around the world.
