Dell XPS1330 + Linux

Hallo Forum, I have one small question: Can I hope that Linux (a.E. Ubuntu) runs at this Laptop? (The "Fingeprint"-sensor I need not so much but works the rest (chipset, Wlat etc.)? Many thanks Andreas

I am also very interested in the hardware compatibility of the XPS1330 with Linux.

After all it depends on your hardware choice with the XPS1330:

WLAN (Intel Pro Wireless 3945) is definitely supported by Intel itself (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2259&OSFullName=Linux*〈=eng&strOSs=39&submit=Go%21)

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3100 is also supported by modern Linux Distributions (xorg-video-intel Version 2), though it is not very fast. Take a look at http://intellinuxgraphics.org. If you plan to use Nvidia with XPS1330, I don't know if it is fully supported

I think the XPS1330 uses the Mobile 965GM Intel chipset which should be fully supported by Linux. Most importantly the above mentioned GMA 3100.

Goodies like webcam and fingerprint-scanner support would be VERY nice to have under Linux. Dear Dell support team, please release detailed hardware specs for those.

Best of all would be complete Ubuntu support for the XPS1330!!!

It will have to work ;) The webcam is a creative one I think, it could be a problem. Creative is not that good at supporting Linux. For the rest, I'm quite confident. A lot of intel stuffs in there, and Intel is very very supportive for Linux. The wireless part could be a problem according to which card you pick. If you go for Intel, it should be fine. Fingerprint reader, very good question... Video, Intel X3100 will have no problem, Nvidia should be ok also. If you want, tell me and I will update all this once I have mine. Will be installed with ubuntu, maybe with other distros for tests.
