GNU/Linux

I have been perusing the Dell forums since last year when I received my
XPS M1710 as a gift.

There used to be a good bit of info about GNU/Linux as it pertains to Dell computers here on this forum.

At long last Dell is selling desktop systems to home users without an installed OS.

Does anyone else feel it's time that all the GNU/Linux threads which were removed last summer are replaced?

I am thankful that Dell is now supporting our freedom to use our computers as we the users choose to.

Now it would be nice if users of GNU/Linux were once again able to communicate with each other on the Dell Community forum - where we belong.

k3mp0m4573r,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

I agree as well with your statement. I will discuss with my manager and team about the possiblity of bringing the Linux Forum Board back as another software board. Once I get an answer I will post back. Thanks for your interest!

k3mp0m4573r,

I have spoken to my manager and she has agreed to put a Linux board back on the forum for our users that have Linux installed on their desktops. Dell does not install Linux on desktop systems. I explained to her the need for our Linux users to have a place of their own to discuss Linux with each other.

Good job! I see where they posted they are going to create a linux board.  I am working through an issue with optiplex lan card configuration and could use Dell/Linux community help.

I'm very glad to see this, too. I also just discovered the page with all the notebooks, and desktops that Dell sells with no OS's on them. I know when I do buy a new computer in the future, I'll stick with buying a Dell, now that I have the choice of not having any Windows software loaded on to it. :)

It would be superb if Dell didn't have the hidden partitions. These get in the way with the installation of Linux.

As you are probably aware, once your rewrite the "factory MBR" you loose the recovery partition.

I would highly support Dell in making their systems "dual-booting friendly" As Windows and Linux both have their advantages.

Nick,
