Hazardous hibernate issue (XPS 13 + Linux Mint Nadia)

I've been using Linux Mint on my XPS 13 for about 5 months now, and am noticing a potentially hazardous condition vis-a-vis hibernate.

The hibernate command works fine, but in approximately 50% cases, the machine switches on immediately after switching off at the end of the hibernate process. It requires an immediate press of the power button to shutdown again.

Worse, in some cases, the machine appears to hibernate, but during storage (with the lid shut), it turns on by itself, and then continues to work, draining the battery and heating up significantly. I have sometimes found that the machine had turned itself on and was running hot for several hours in the middle of a flight. I dread to think what would happen if the temperature went up sufficiently to cause something to ignite...

Is there any fix or workaround for this?
