Help with sound on my mini 9

Question

I recently purchased a mini 9 with XP installed (not my choice, was the only option from New Zealand) and promptly installed ubuntu on it. All seems to be working great (typing this message from it now!), except for the sound. Any help from you linux gurus would be greatly appreciated! I have no idea where to start..

I am a comlete newbie to linux. I'm competent on a mac or windows pc, but have never used linux before so have no idea how it all works!

Ok so I got it working. Apparently I had to configure alsa-base which allowed me to change the volume level of the physical speakers. It's now working.

Could you post any changes you made to the alsa-base file? I'm having sound issues with my Mini 9 running Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex (8.10).

Essentially only this line in the alsa-base file works for me:

option snd-hda-intel model=dell

But I get a lot of static / white noise over the speakers.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Ahh yes I had that problem too. Play around with the sound levels ( type alsamixer into a terminal). I think I set the internal mic level to 0% and that fixed the static noise. Hope that helps
