How to install Linux 8.0 on a Inspiron E1505

Hello

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 the processor is Intel Duo Core CPU T2300 1.66GHZ, processor speed is 1.62GHZ, Ram 512, Hard drive 75GB.  I am trying to mulitboot windows 2003 server, Windows Media Center (XP pro) and I want to install Linux 8.0 on it.  When I do this install it works on the desktop but when I try to do this install on this laptop the Linux installation won't complete. On the laptop it allows me to get as far as installing the Windows 2003 server and the Windows XP and it even lets me "start" the Linux installation even pass using the autopartition and setting all of the settings but after that when it starts formatting the Linux partitions it slows down, then when it tries to copy the image to the hard disk it gets up to 12% of it down and then gets stuck there and won't go any further.  The error message says there might not be enough space on the hard drive but actually I give it the same space allocation for the installation on the laptop hard drive as I give the installation on the desktop hard drive which is 30GB!  Can anybody tell me why I can't complete the Linux installation on this Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptop?

By "Linux 8.0" do you mean Red Hat Linux 8.0? If so, that is a VERY old distribution and may not support the hardware you're trying to use (not to mention it has not been supported in years and you won't be able to get any security patches for it). Try downloading either Ubuntu 7.04 or Kubuntu 7.04 (I prefer the latter because it uses KDE rather than Gnome). It installed flawlessly on my E1505. If you prefer a Red Hat style system, get the latest Fedora Core and give it a try.

Hello hotshotDJ

Yes, I am referring to the Red Hat Linux 8.0  .  I will take your suggestion and try Fedora because Red Hat is what I am accustomed to and I like working from the command line.  I will let you know how it goes and thank you very much the suggestion.
