How to use DP/HDMI Adapter

Hello,

I recently bought a DP/HDMI Adapter to connect my XPS13 to my monitor. Unfortunately, it appears that the HDMI output doesn't work.

'xrandr -q' shoes that neither DP nor HDMI are connected:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 293mm x 164mm
   1366x768       60.0*+   40.0
   1360x768       59.8     60.0
   1024x768       60.0
   800x600        60.3     56.2
   640x480        59.9
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

The same output I got with the Sputnik 3.2 Kernel as well as the Ubuntu stock 3.5 kernel. Is there any way to fix this?

Cheers

Raj

bump?

btw. the display port works using a DP/VGA adapter, but that's not really a solution for me.

And to clarify, the external HD interface came up automatically when I plugged in my adapter and HDMI cable to the display.  No special configuration or commands required.

I have both the XP13 HD and Full-HD versions running Ubuntu and have no problems at all connecting to an HDMI display via the Mini-DP to HDMI adapter.  The systems are running 12.04 as well as 13.04.   Sounds like there might be an issue with the adapter if VGA works...at the very worst the port itself may have an issue or there may be issues with the display.  If your system has been pre-loaded with 12.04 then you should have pro-support included with the machine.  I'd open an issue with those guys for starters.  If it isn't preloaded, then you can also file a report here:

Please make sure you include plenty of information on the problem, such as:

Ubuntu Version

Kernel in use (via the uname -a command)

Steps to reproduce

Display type being used and the capable resolutions on the display.

Also, while the monitor is connected, try to open system preferences -> displays and see if the display is recognized there.

We have bought 3 XPS13 Developer Edition (so Ubuntu is preloaded) this month, we tried two of them, and on both the display port when connected to an HDMI adapter does not work.

I will check again with the third one plus another adapter (but everything is brand new, including the adapter and the monitor)

Will let you know.
