Latitude C800

Hello Everyone, I have tried many times to install Mandrake 9.2 and RedHat 9 on this system. It can't find the monitor, I have picked numerous monitors from Dell laptop display to generic. It can't start X server because of this. My system has an ATI Mobility M4 card in it, 256 meg of ram. Can someone please help me figure out how to get linux to see my display? I also have manually configured the XF86free config file too with the vertical and horizonal ranges and nothing.
