Did you look at the iso disks you can download from the Linux site? I looked at four of them before setteling on UBUNTU and all the drivers I needed were there, even for my wireless.
You can use the iso disks (without installing it on your hard drive) just as though it were on your HD. It's a good way to see if it's what you want/need.

Wireless:

After booting the Gutsy Kubuntu desktop cd on my wifes Dell 1420N, we needed to create a new user, log off and back on as the new user for the wireless to work automagically. After logging back on as the user we created, all we needed to do is click on the connection icon and give it the password. It even worked with the neighbors open system without a password.

I've loaded Fedora 8 on my older Latitude D800 and can't find drivers for my TrueMobile 1400 MiniPCI wireless card.  Does anyone know where I can find drivers for this card?

Thanks, in advance!

Taking a hint from the other messages, I tried installing Ubuntu 7.10 this evening on my D800 and that distro also doesn't have drivers for my TrueMobile 1400 Wireless network card.  However it did tell me the drivers were proprietary to the manufacturer and weren't available to the Ubuntu driver developers...  Ditto the nVidia Video drivers for the same laptop...

Windows XP reports the card's PCI/VEN as 14E4&DEV_4324&SUBSYS_00011028

A search of Broadcom's web site doesn't show any drivers for a "4324" chipset wireless card.

I would greatly appreciate any help or assistance to find a driver for my wireless card.  I can live without 3D accelerated video - I don't play games.  Why does this have to be so difficult?

We just purchased a Brother 5250DN for about $200.00 at the local office supply store, plugged it into the router, and used the ppd file on the included disk for CUPS and it works really well, even does duplex printing. It comes to life pretty fast when given something to do and with the exception of the led on it's built in network card, you could not tell it's even got power until it's needed. Brother has many low cost printers that work well with linux. You may want to check out what models they have with linux support, you may find a printer you like.
