Linux installation on DELL Vostro 400 Desktop
Hi,
I have DELL Vostro 400 Desktop (Core2 Duo E8500, 4 GB RAM)
I'm trying to install Linux on it, but installation process
stops after saying the message "Loading ata_piix driver ...".
My Hard Disk is SATA and I tried Fedora 8 and CentOS 5.1.
But the same message appears and installation fails.
I tried many options such as "all-generic-ide", "noapic", "irqpoll", ...
but the problem is still not solved.
Could anyone help me to solve this problem?
Thanks
starandes

Does that machine have RAID/ATA options? I could never get Linux to load when in the ATA mode on my D9200. RAID/AHCI mode always worked fine. I never understood why because ATA mode is supposed to be the "compatible" one.

Hi,
Thanks for your response, Peter.
My VOSTRO 400 has IDE/RAID option,
"BIOS Menu -> Integrated Peripherals -> SATA Mode -> IDE/RAID"
in its bios settings(the default setting is "IDE"). I tried "RAID" but the
system doesn't work fine for me, saying "no raid disk found" or something...
Anyway, installation process failed in both IDE and RAID mode.
Further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
