I would suggest trying Kanotix. Being a LiveCD (with generally excellent hardware detection, BTW) you can see just how well it's going to work with your XPS before installing. But unlike most other LiveCD distros, Kanotix installs to hard drive very 'cleanly' with excellent Debian compatibility. There are also many knowledgeable, helpful people on the Kanotix forums.

Thanks for the info. Since I posted I gave Ubuntu a try and it seems to work fine.

I will give Kanotix a try as well given that it's Live so don't need to install to test.

Ideally I would like to be using one of the major distros such as RedHat, Mandrake, SuSe, etc... so if anybody has these working I would love to hear how you managed it.

Finally, dual booting Linux system. Only been trying to get this working for about 1 month. I knew it must be possible.
