Did you burn the cds from the mandrake site or did you purchase the cds from a store?  If you burnt the cds you need to verify that they are working right.  If they do you may want to try to create a boot floppy and see if that gets you anywhere, you should be able to do this using the cds on disk 1 I believe.

I download of the site of Mandrake. The discs if they work already I have installed it in other equipment. Also already it tries doing floppy with the CD image and I have the same result

Well, then it has to be more than likely a cd drive issue in the computer.  Have you openend it up and ensured all cables are tightly snug and hooked properly.  Have you used the cdrom drive for other cd's?  I would verify that everything looks ok.   Sometimes different brands of drives react to differently to burned cd's, I have cd drive at home that works fine, but won't read my mandrake burnt cds.

I have the same problem.

I have MandrakeLinux 10.1 and Dell Optiplex Gx620. When I try and install it tells me that there is no CDROM drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am using the same install CD that has worked on Optiplex 280

Do the optiplex systems have removeabl drives, if I remember correctly some of them do, could this place havoc on anything.  I have removable drive on my laptop, but it recognized it fine without any extra effort.  Are you all installing from cds or dvds?

The CD-ROM drive is NOT removable.

I am installing from CD. (it is a cd-rom drive only)

I have downloaded the latest kernel in RPM form but cann't add to installion disk where the kernel is because the files are read-only. Therefore I do not know how I can update files on disk. I cann't start installation to upgrade files because the CD-ROM drive is not recognised and 2) there is no floppy drive with my GX620 Optiflex.

I have the same problem with Mandrake 10.0 Official and a Inspiron 5100e

The dvd drive is OK and it's not removable. t's look like a driver problem in the kernel. I'm downloading another version of mandrake...

I'll tell ...
