Mandriva LE2005 on Latitude D610

What brand of hard drives do you have in there now?....I don't guess you could paste the list of options in here either as it is probably pretty long.  Usually getting SATA drives working in Linux is a little bit of a chore, so if you can install it on the ide one first, it might be a smoother install (most of the time that is).

There is a Toshiba HD present (MK6026GAX)

Sometimes in the list there are generic hard drives for certain brands, if you can find that you may want to go that route.  If not, linux will usually have a generic hard drive driver in general, but I don't know if it will work well.  Your best bet is to go www1.mandriva.com and see if your hard drive is supported, if it is not, then we can see if there is a work around.

i also bought the d610 and exactly the same issue occurs during the installation routine of mandriva le 2005. i also have the same hdd from toshiba, and i looked it up in the hardware support. it is not listed there!!!

does anyone of you solved the problem yet or has any further idea how to handle it?? up to now, i had a longer search on google and found out that this problem often happens, but noone has a solution!!!

the strange thing about it is that the sata intel 82801fbm (ich6m) is supported by mandriva 10.2, during the installtion he is able to found it, but in the end cannot use it, load the right modul or whatever!!

i guess, when not finding a solution soon, i will skip this whole thing and install fc4!
