My first Linux Experience. Knoppix 5.1.x

It looks nice. I use the Dell Dimension E521 , 1GB Ram, Geforce 6600 LE PCIe, CMI 8738 Sound Card, everything works like a charm. I get sound and all. XMMS is cool too. I have shoutcast radio links saved on my thumb drive. All I did was drag them from the drive to the XMMS Player and it played music! I do not think I will install Linux on my PC just yet.. As I am still a windows user but I am very impressed by what I have seen so far. As of now my box has been up for 5 hours on Knoppix and not one crash.

:) Knoppix was my one of my first experiences with Linux too. I ended up having to use it due to a crash with Windows. It helped me save all the data on one of my hard drives so I could reinstall XP...but I loved what I saw from Knoppix so I decided to try out some different version of Linux. Finally ended up settling on Ubuntu. I dual boot now and I find I almost never use XP.

Glad to see you got a nice impression. Why don't you try the Ubuntu livecd? you'll get to see a different window manager (Gnome), along with a very solid distribution.

Nice. Knoppix just should be included with every PC and piece of hardware sold. It was my first experience as well, the big draw being the Live CD. I was amazed at how fast it was and how many useful utilities were right there for you. It was not long until I ripped out the Windows drive and replaced with Ubuntu. I wondered about all the things I might be losing, but found I could do so much more. I've even been more into PC gaming with Linux. Just got an older Inspiron 1100 and Kubuntu 7.04 works perfectly. Even Beryl works fine on the old dog.
