it is possible to install linux distribution on a harddisk with windows also or on an other disk.
If you never used linux, it is better for you to install suse distribution. It is more more easy than redhat.
the first think you have to do it is to prepare your disk.
If you have only one disque, it is more easy to use partition magic or other software like to reduce your windows partition. Then boot with the first suse cd and install your suse linux.
If you have two harddisk, you can directly boot on the first cd of suse.
If you want to see if all material is ok for linux, you can download the live cd of suse and see if all hardwra run. Normaly all is ok, maybe if you have wireless or special printer, than this hardware don't work directly but it can with sopme manipulation. En fait, ce que j'aimerais faire est installer linux sur un deuxième disque dur en modifiant au minimum mon installation windows sur le disque principal. Je veux éviter que le loader de linux ne s'enregistre dans le Master boot record de mon disque principal. J'aimerais que Linux soit chargé par le loader Windows NTLDR. J'ai vu plusieurs articles sur le net expilquant qu'il faut créer un fichier bootsect.lnx enregistrant les premier 256 ko du boot sector du disque Linux (contenant un pointeur vers le loader linux) et modifier le fichier boot.ini de Windows. Je ne sais pas si quelqu'un sur ce forum a déjà essayé cette méthode ?
