No Ubuntu support on weekends, microphone not working mini 9
Hi,
I have a dell mini 9 with integrated webcam. The sound (out) works fine but the internal microphone needed to use Dell Video Chat does not. The mic. does not record sound when making a test call (although you can see my lips moving on the test call playback). The sound recorder under Sounds and Video does not work. The list of devices available are:
0. HDA intel (Alsa mixer)
1. Realtek ALC268 (oss mixer)
2. Playback: ALSA PC on front: 0 (ALC268 Analog) vic DMA (PulseAudio Mixer)
3. Capture: Monitor Source of ALSA PCM on front:0 (ALC268 Analog) via DMA (PulseAudio Mixer)
4. Capture: ALSA PCM on front:0 (ALC268 Analog) via DMA (PulseAudio Mixer)
I need the internal mic to work to use either Dell Video Chat or Skype both of which I have working.
thanks, Simon

I looked through the spec's for the Mini9 and I couldn't find any mention of an internal microphone. Are you sure it has one?

Yes,it has one.
Ubuntu settings:
System/Preferences/Sound: Set all to ALSA.
Double click on task bar volume control.
On playback tab, set internal mic control to about half.
On recording tab set Capture and Capture1 to about half.
On options tab set input sources to Front mic and mic respectively.
That should do it.

Hi Simon,
Check this page. It'll probably solve your problem. Post back if it doesn't.
Good luck!
Pedro.
