Optiplex 740 AMD64 X2 USB problem

Hi, Brand new Optiplex 740 with 2 GB memory. Bios is 1.0.5. (the latest) Want to have a dual boot XP and Linux 64. Install fedora core 6 kernel 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 with acpi=off The mouse hangs after few minutes. Unpluging and repluging the mouse makes it working again. Is there a solution for this problem? Thanks Claude

There are 2 solutions: One is to use a low speed USB Hub. For example is you a Dell monitor 2007FP there is low speed hub integrated. Plug the mouse and the keyboard to the screen and the Hub to one USB port of the computer. Two is to use a PCI USB card. It works also but the Bios do not recognize the mouse and the keyboard so if you have a dual boot you can not choose which OS you want to boot! But when Windows or Linux is booted the OS is able to locate the mouse and the keyboard. The detection of mouse/keyboard is something that Dell should address in a next release of the Bios. Hope this helps. Claude

Update: the low speed USB Hub is not a solution. The PCI usb adapter works better but it's not perfect. There is sometimes some artifact with the cursor. The cause USB driver or an X problem?
